{"id":39155,"date":"2016-05-13T10:08:30","date_gmt":"2016-05-13T09:08:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.archeoares.it\/?p=39155&#038;lang=en"},"modified":"2016-06-30T10:07:37","modified_gmt":"2016-06-30T09:07:37","slug":"vestments-to-st-bonifacio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.archeoares.it\/en\/sacred-art-popes-treasury\/vestments-to-st-bonifacio\/","title":{"rendered":"Vestments of St. Bonifacio"},"content":{"rendered":"<address>Linen, silk and gold embroidery<br \/>\n12th century (?)<\/address>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The four vestments belonging to St. Bonifacio (<em>San Bonifacio<\/em>), Bishop of Ferento came from Ferento which was destroyed by the people of Viterbo in 1172.<br \/>\nThe <strong>alb<\/strong>, a white liturgical robe in linen that is commonly called shirt.<br \/>\nThe <strong>amito<\/strong> a rectangle of linen that covers the priest\u2019s shoulders under the shirt (as used by Roman priests), or above (as the Ambrosian and Maronite priests).<br \/>\nThe <strong>stole<\/strong> is made of a silver woven textile and decorated with Byzantine style geometric designs embroidered with red silk threads.<br \/>\nThe<strong> cingolo<\/strong> girdle or belt in silver brass with iron ties is kept in the display case along with the silk and gold pallium of Giovanni XXI to protect the other vestments.<br \/>\nTradition  says that most of these vestments are from  the 12th century keeping the style of the 6th century. Recently a later datation &#8211; the 14th century- has been proposed with an attribution to Italian masters active in Lucca or Venice.
