What type of connection is there between the architecture of Emilio Ambasz and the Hanging gardens of Babylon? The model of Hortus Conclusus has definitely disappeared or is it present in contemporary gardens? How can modern graffito and ancient graffito modify the same idea of space and be equally evocative in an “auspicate” architecture?

This collection of essays asks these questions, chronologically different but identical, from the conceptual point of view, facing them directly and maintaining, in an in depth discussion, a unique “fil rouge” the connections between History, Contemporary Architecture and value of the Image.

The themes are analyzed through the work of some contemporary architects (more or less well known), and show the close connection with other historic works. It immediately becomes obvious that present day architects, willing or not, have a strong debt with History even though they often confront it lightly, or sometimes with devotion or rarely in a completely unknowing way.
